Creating the perfect Tablescape…

I love hosting friends and family for dinner. I’m certainly not the most natural chef, but I can follow a recipe and mostly manage to create a few good dishes! But really for me its about the company, the laughter and getting people together around the table. Plus I LOVE creating unique tablescapes using a mixture of my ceramics as well as some other elements to bring everything together.

Here are a few ideas if you want to have a go at tablescaping:

  1. Theme and Inspiration: Start by choosing a theme or concept for your tablescape. This could be inspired by the season, a particular cuisine, a cultural tradition, or a specific colour palette. Let your creativity flow and select a theme that reflects your personality and the occasion.

  2. Table Linens: Select table linens that complement your theme and set the foundation for your tablescape. Choose tablecloths, runners, or placemats in coordinating (or clashing!) colours or patterns that enhance the overall aesthetic. Consider layering different textures and fabrics for added visual interest.

  3. Centerpiece: Create a striking centerpiece that serves as the focal point of the tablescape. This could be a floral arrangement, a collection of candles, a decorative bowl filled with seasonal fruits or vegetables, or an artistic sculpture. Experiment with varying heights and textures to add dimension to the centerpiece.

  4. Place Settings: Pay attention to the details of your place settings to add elegance and sophistication to the table. Use charger plates as a base, layering dinner plates, salad plates, and bowls as needed. Fold napkins creatively or use napkin rings to add a decorative touch. Consider incorporating personalised name cards or menu cards for each guest.

  5. Glassware and Tableware: Choose glassware and tableware that complements the style of your tablescape. Select ceramic cups or glasses for wine & water, and champagne flutes that align with your theme. Mix and match different styles and patterns to add visual interest and personality to the table.

  6. Decorative Accents: Enhance your tablescape with decorative accents that tie into your theme. This could include decorative candles, seasonal foliage or greenery, decorative figurines or ornaments, or themed embellishments such as seashells for a beach-themed dinner party or miniature pumpkins for an Autumnal harvest feast.

  7. Ambient Lighting: Set the mood with ambient lighting that enhances the atmosphere of your dinner party. Use candles, string lights, or lanterns to create a warm and inviting glow.

  8. Personal Touches: Add personal touches to your tablescape to make it truly unique and memorable. This could include incorporating DIY elements such as handmade place cards or table decorations.

But above and beyond all of this its about people you love coming together around a table and sharing good times together…
